  • Home & Haven originally offered these clocks for neighborhoods in Brooklyn like Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, etc.  But they were such a huge hit, now you can get one customized with any city you like.  Jetsetters may need one for several different time zones.

  • I had tea yesterday at the Pierre Hotel for a business function.  How I love little finger sandwiches.

Afterwards met up with Yumi and Yewool at Havana Alma De Cuba in the west village.

We had paella valenciana, grilled skirt steak w/ chimichurri sauce & fried cassava, oxtail in red wine sauce, grilled corn with cheese, chili powder, and mayo.

The paella was SO good.  As was the sangria!  The steak was very good, but pass on the oxtail – not tender like we expected.  Grilled corn was also good but not quite as good as that place in Soho or Nolita (I forget the name).

This was the aftermath.  We tore that food apart!

    Food makes me happy.

Yet sad when I get on the scale.

Monday I had dinner with Mr. Bee at a Brazilian restaurant called Casa – a quaint little place in the west village (sorry didn’t take camera!).  His filet was ok, but my chicken with garlic, tomatoes, onions and okra were delish.  You have to ask for the hot sauce – this light green paste.  Almost everyone there was speaking Portuguese – always a good sign.   It’s a great place for a date, but the reviews tend to think the place is hit or miss.  We had a nice experience though.

  • Long time no update!  Life has been busy with work indeed.

I wanted to write a blog about life in the West Village because I absolutely love living here.  I get a phenomenol $10 manicure across the street.  There’s a Gourmet Garage, Citarella, D’Agostino’s, Balducci’s, Gristedes, and farmer’s market all within walking distance.  I hang out at the dog park 4 blocks away (even though I don’t have a dog).  There are great restaurants, shops, bars, things to do galore and I still discover something new every week.

Where you live in Manhattan has such a huge impact on your day to day life.

I love this neighborhood so much, that I actually want to live in the city a lot longer than originally planned.  I wanted to move out of the city once we started a family, but maybe we’ll stay until the kids start school.

The West Village is an ideal neighborhood for me because it’s nice and family-oriented, but it also appeals to my bohemian side.  I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in Manhattan.

    Flat-Rate Cleaners is:

…the online dry cleaning and laundry service for “busy” New Yorkers like yourself.  Just open up your laptop. Choose a pick-up time for the items you want cleaned. Pay online. Then roll back onto your stomach and resume your snooze.

Flat Rate gets its name from — you guessed it — the flat $4.99 rate charged per item dry cleaned (be it pants, dress, or coat). Men’s laundered shirts cost just under two bucks a pop, and wash-and-fold laundry is priced by the bag (not the pound).

If something isn’t cleaned to your satisfaction, Flat Rate will reclean it for free. And turnaround is pretty quick (two days).

That’s pretty darn cheap (my local dry cleaners are kinda expensive) and they do laundry too!  Maybe I’ll give them a try.  Can you tell I’m obsessed with laundry?

  • We just bought this cool Tanita Glass Digital Scale

    tnita

It has a big LCD screen so I can see it without my glasses first thing in the morning – that’s when I weigh myself because that’s when you weigh the least.   Hey I need all the help I can get.

  •  If you live in the city and you have a cat, the litter robot is a must have.  Actually the litter robot is a must have no matter where you live!

    litter-robot-04_LG

The globe automatically starts turning about 10 minutes after your cat uses it and dumps the poo or pee into the receptable at the bottom.  This saves a ton of litter.  You can also line the receptacle with any large grocery bag.

I had the littermaid once upon a time, but litter got everywhere and changing those receptacles was pretty nasty.

The litter robot is quite pricey - I paid more for the bone color than the black one, and s&h was a fortune… but it was worth every penny.

Smokey the cat loves it too.
