  • Oyster Shots

I became obsessed with oyster shots after my friend Susie posted this video on her site.  I looooooove oysters and this had me positively drooling.

She had these oyster shots at Fanueil Hall Marketplace in Boston.  These are different than your typical oyster shots, which are usually made with vodka or tequila, because these are made with beer.  I happened to be visiting Boston shortly after, so I went to the exact same place.  One taste and I was hooked – I had to make oyster shots of my very own.

This past weekend I bought fresh oysters from the Whole Foods in Union Square and had an oyster shot party at mi casa.

Several people have been asking me for the recipe so here goes!

    Ingredients:

    1 oyster
    1 tsp minced garlic
    1-2 tsp horseradish
    2 tb cocktail sauce
1 tb tabasco (more if you like it spicy!)
    1/4 cup Budweiser
    dash of salt & pepper
perhaps a nice squeeze of lemon as well

Stir together and one shot.  Let the oyster slide down – don’t chew!  So damn good.  My mouth is watering as I’m writing this.

Here’s a video on how to shuck an oyster.  It can be a little tricky.  Luckily one of my friends had oyster shucking experience and showed us all how to do it.  Happy Shucking!

  • BYOB

    From today’s Gothamist:

Amuse-Bouche’s BYOB Map of New York.  I think the only place I’ve been to on that list is Tartine (and I took two bottles of wine of course ).  Wherever you go for dinner for two, getting a bottle of wine always jacks up the total significantly.  So woohoo for BYOB!

  • Scooba

I wanted a roomba forever, but now the folks over at iRobot have come out with the Scooba – a floor washing robot!  Since we have hardwood floors and a cat, this would probably be a better purchase.

Oooooo hands free cleaning goodness.  And yes it’s safe for wood floors!

  • Da Andrea Ristorante

Tonight Mr. Bee and I had dinner in our new hood at Da Andrea Ristorante.  We were walking along Hudson looking for a good place to eat and decided to walk in.  The place was pretty packed for a Monday night.

We started off with the baby grilled calamari w/ Mediterranean salad.  The foccacia bread dipped in olive oil was divine.

Mr. Bee had the rolled stuffed chicken breast with proscuitto, spinach, and thyme sauce.  I had the beef tenderloin (medium rare) with potato cake, roasted shallots, and cabernet sauce.

Everything was not only delicious, the portions were generous, and cheap too!  The dinner, a glass of red wine and a capuccino came up to $54 pre-tip.  This will definitely become a regular favorite.

  • Moishe’s Magnificent Movers

I called Moishe’s movers today to get an estimate and schedule our move date.  They’re supposed to be the best movers in the city and I saw them in action when my brother in law moved.  They were fast, efficient, and I think they got everything done in under four hours.

I told them that we would be moving: 1 queen size bed, 2 bookcases, 1 desk, 1 television, and 40-50 boxes.  They gave me an estimate of $450.  Yep we really have that little furniture – it’s going to be a lot of fun painting, shopping, and decorating our new apartment.  A helluva lot of work too -  I can’t wait!

  • Lookbook

I love this idea for a lookbook from decor8.

I usually cut out entire magazine pages of things I like, but this is a better way to put together looks for an entire room.  I’m such a geek I want to run out and buy a notebook right now!

  • Welcome!

I get ideas for blogs all the time that aren’t specifically weddingbee related, but would be perfect for a newlywed blog.  Since Mr. Bee and I are moving into a new apartment next month, I thought that now would be a good time to start one.

The place we’re moving to is very small so we’re going to have to get creative about maximizing space.  I’ll be posting about moving, furniture shopping, decorating, organizing, diy projects, recipes, entertaining, general newlywed life, and much more!  I don’t know if I’ll eventually turn this into a standalone site like weddingbee or if I’ll just keep it as a personal blog, but I wanted to be prepared just in case.

    Hope you enjoy it!
