  • I discovered this cool site called Walk Score via Unclutterer.

Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc.

I put in our address, and it showed that our neighborhood is 98% walkable.  Woohoo!

After 3 years, I’m getting sick of living in the city to tell you the truth.  A suburban/more rural existence suits me much better.  But meanwhile I heart our neighborhood and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in Manhattan.

  • i thought the same way after a few years in the city. like eventually i would end up in the suburbs. i moved back to SoCal suburbia and i miss NYC urban living. once you have lived in NYC you will always miss it. my NY friends that moved back to LA are all starting to move back now too…

  • ooh~ thanks for sharing!    our neighborhood stinks in walkability.  i only got a 62.  that’s so awesome that you can basically go anywhere just by walking!!  i always have to get in my car…so in reality my walkability score is 0.

  • ryc: well, maybe it goes in cycles… cause 3 years ago all my LA friends that were living in NYC at the time, all moved back to California, and I soon followed. This past couple of months I’ve had 2 of those same friends move back to NYC and a couple more seriously considering it… life is funny.

  • i’m so glad i moved out of the city. it was the best thing i could have done. i have an apartment about 5 times bigger than i used to, i have a yard, green grass– and it’s about 10 degrees cooler and ALWAYS less humid…

  • awesome! very cool idea.

  • sometimes i see you as a total city girl, then but sometimes i can picture you growing tomatoes in your backyard with a straw hat on. hahahahahahhaaha. i will always be suburb girl.

  • wow it’s been three years already…

  • chris’ place is 97% and my place is 89%. 89% is not bad for a suburb/nj place, huh?

  • bee, wanna go rowing in the hudson river?

  • cool site! my address came out 100% walkable! i live in Gramercy and love it. i’ve been living in manhattan for 2.5 years, and although i LOVE the city life, i too have *some* thoughts about moving out like you do… especially when i think about living in a house vs. an apartment. but i remind myself that i have the rest of my lifetime to live in suburbia, and in the meantime, there’s nothing like living in the best city in the world ;)

  • haha, my address is 43%, which was surprisingly high (i was thinking 30%)… it’s this widespread desert!  the closest thing (which is not a place i’d want to go) is 1/2 a mile away…

  • nice find, my place doesn’t exist in their database =(
