Awhile back, I blogged about wanting a recharging station for all my small electronics that hid all the cords. At the time, Design Within Reach was the only one who made one but it was $238. It’s on sale now for $98 plus free shipping. Should I get one? White or silver?
There are many other companies that have come out with similar products recently.
Hammacher Schlemmer – $24.95. Charges 3 devices.

Hello Direct – $29.99. Charges 3 devices.

Brookstone – $75.00. Charges 6 devices.

Frontgate – $175. Charges 4 devices.

i like the brookstone one. the top few look too industrial/mod for me. i love electronics but they aren’t something i want on display in such a plastic-y way.
i have the “powerstation”. definitely an economical choice, but it is really plastic-y and not pretty. also it’s kind of annoying because you’re supposed to adjust the bars to grab onto your device; otherwise if you just place it on top, it can slide off, esp if your cords are stiff. it does the job but i would prolly get something else. the brookstone one looks nice, without looking like it will take up your entire desk/nightstand.
omg — those bucket things! for our final product designs project in college, one of my classmates designed something very similar. except he made it all cutesy like a terracotta flowerpot. the wires were stems and the plugs were flowers. it was so cheesy. i wonder if this is him?!
Goodhousekeeping (with Dr. Phil on cover) showed how to make these. They used a breadbox and poked holes in the back, basically, so the things were hidden and the cords went behind a desk or whatever and down to the outlet. They also did one with a pretty box.
I like Brookstone’s. But do you really charge that many things? Esp since Ipods charge by plugging into your computer, and the same for the blackberry, so really, you need to charge the phone only.
I like the Brookstone or the Frontgate…but if you’re choosing between the white or silver buckety things, I would DEFINATELY go with the silver. The fact you can see through the white and see all the cords doesn’t make it nearly as cool.
they’re def something i need but they’re either pretty ugly or not worth the price.
I have the metal one…we have a DWR about 5 blocks away from us and I had to have it. It totally helps with the clutter issue. Good choice, Bee!
I agree, good idea but it seems like you could totally DIY this one… even $98 seems ridiculous for this.
