  • According to this nymetro article, some parents on Long Island are spending up to 6 figures on professionally designed treehouses for their children.

When I was a kid, not only did I walk 10 miles to school in the snow with no shoes,
my treehouse was a cardboard box.

  • haha I’ve seen this on tv – I made my own treehouse using scrap wood from my dad’s treehouse – it was no where near this nice looking.

  • hey hey.  that’s my damn line!!!!!  and there ARE no snow in la!!!

  • woah.  i walked to school with no shoes too!!!  apparently, so did my parents!  =P  what a coincidence!

  • didn’t have trees in my backyard. we couldn’t even afford cardboard boxes. had to use plastic safeway bags.

  • ok, that is disgusting that parents spent that much on treehouses! yea, we had one too! it was a tree with wooden bars on the branches. like 3 wooden bars. that was our treehouse. hahahha i like your cardboard box tree!

  • i walked 10 miles in the snow with no shoes…. uphill…! both ways!!! =P

  • but but …. you lived in california. what snow?

we played with red folding chairs. don’t ask.

  • oh my… i want a treehouse for my future kids but man over six figures is just plain crazy!

  • wow… they look pretty awesome tho!

  • wait, what snow???

  • for 6 figures, that looks pretty damn shitty. haha

  • those houses look sooo awesome. if i had money, i’d build one for myself.

  • hahaha it’s so funny that you’re writing about this. i’ve been researching this yesterday. i sooooooooooooo want to build one for my kids on my own!

  • We’re building a house. I had a friend in all seriousness ask me if I considered having the architect draw up a mini version of the plans, and then having the builder make a doll house or a play house for the kids.

I said, No actually. We had not considered that.

Did you ever look at the playhouses at Fashion Island, they do an auction every fall. They are amazing. Truly crazy.
